Re: Tribute Acts
Only time I've seen Metallica (Lollapalooza) they opened with 'So What'. Wonderful.

There's a rather niche tribute band that just do songs by Vinegar Joe and the Strokes. Can't remember their name...

Re: Tribute Acts
been waiting for Metallica to do “So What” not done it yet.

Tour starts in Berlin next month then it’s off to Scandinavia and Russia . Fuck knows what band they will cover in Finland and the only Russian band I can think of is Tatu.

Going to buy a punter T shirt in Moscow as the swag truck can’t go there so hopefully it will be a rare one.

Been given three crew jackets and a hoodie so far - lost the hoodie already .

Cheers Joe, Metallica did a version of Take on Me in Norway. Liked to have heard that.

They did a short Maiden cover at Twickers, but I too pissed to notce. Ghost were superb by the way.

Going back to tribute acts I think they are great. What's nicer then going to a listen to a live band, generally in a small venue, getting pissed and having a laugh, hearing the songs you want too hear.

I Remeber going back years ago to see a Van Halen tribute band at the Stripes Bar at Brentford football club, only afterwards When the band removed their wigs realised it was my old guitar teacher from way back.

My mate used to play guitar in a Genesis tribute band called Mama, the lead singer sounds just like Collins but looks like a fat Alan Sugar.

Re: Tribute Acts
As for the same songs.......

Every band you see is the same set every night with the odd extra song thrown in depending where the show is . Metallica did a plastic Bertrand song in Belgium and a stone roses cover in Manchester .

It’s as much to help the follow spots as anything else .

Some of the real big bands/artists I tour with I do get the impression it’s just a job.

Did a couple of smaller tours with Biffy Clyro and Katie Meluia and they seemed to enjoy it a lot.

Bumped into Biffy backstage at a Foo Fighters gig , said they was getting fed up with the management co pushing them .

Aussie Pink Floyd are IT. Right on the money... as some have said, close your eyes and you are there. Even Gilmour says they sound more like PF than PF did (not sure how you would do that tbh). Usually see them once or twice every tour - last seen last November at Ipswich - great stage show and lights etc if the music isn't enough for ya...

I would imagine Bungo it all becomes muscle memory after a bit. Mind you cauld be the same for original bands as well, I can imagine Maiden getting bored playing the trooper every night.

Genesya is a great Genesis tribute band, they're French with a girl drummer, and she is very good

An iPhone video of an original album playing won't generate nearly enough "likes".

It's true. After being in various pub bands for about 40 years now, there are quite a few that I just can't face playing any more including:-

Fool For Your Loving
Summer of '69
Paranoid
All Right Now
Born To Be Wild
Sweet Child Of Mine
Radar Love

and of course...

Mustang Sally

Aus pink floyd and Limehouse Lizzy are both very good.

Whilst driving through Richmond a while ago i saw an advert in an Indian resturant saying that Patelvis was performing that night. Made me smile.

Re: Tribute Acts
Another shout for Limehouse Lizzy, they are really good.

Seen a few Rainbow purple ones over the years.

You must really be dedicated to be in one though drive me nuts playing the songs over and over again.

Nice one. Personally I think it's a masive skill to be able to play other band's stuff well. Many original bands starting writing their own as they couldn't play other band's songs well enough.

I'm in a cover band that used to play lots of originals too, until we realised that other band's songs were a lot better, (and more popular) than ours.

Going to a Ska Festival at Garon Park in August to see From The Jam, can't wait.

Bad Manners also there, so should be a good laugh.

Can they be called tribute acts though when they are mainly made up of original band members, albeit without the most important singers?

Saw INXS about 10 years ago with obviously a different lead singer and they were pretty good.

Re: Tribute Acts
I play in a Pink Floyd tribute band,

We play theatres and clubs and its a privilege to be playing this material especially so when the audience so obviously enjoy it too.

Re: Tribute Acts
saw The Smiths Ltd a few weeks back, musically OK once you got used to the guitarist looking like a dinner lady

the singer was surrounded by birds afterwards so fair play

In a similar vein, have you heard this? Unholy mixture of Metallica and ABBA!
